Photographs about water

A close friend of mine laughs when she looks at these and asks why I spend so much time making photos of nothing. She is absolutely right; these are all photos of nothing in particular—photos that ignore the rule that the subject must be clearly communicated and a photograph must have tension to be successful. You won't find much of the "rule of thirds" here. These are easy going photos, tranquil, relaxed. The compositions are centered and somewhat symmetrical. I have replaced the diagonal lines loved by photographers to quickly usher the eye to the important areas of the frame with horizontal lines to give the eye a respite from being led obediently through the various attractions of the image. If this sounds terrible to you, rest assured that because of the nature of image compression these photos reduce to unusually small file sizes. You will be able to get through them quickly and with little pain; perhaps you will find something more to your taste in the natural landscape portfolio. If you are like me, however, you find enough tension in you daily life and sometimes prefer a more meditative approach. A photo that doesn't coerce your attention but rather allows you look. These photos reflect my state of mind when I am by the water. A content feeling where I can stare comfortably for hours at the changing light and the remarkable shifting nature of water.
